Had another morning where the baby refused to sleep in the
car, but he remained reasonably happy this time. We had to go back past
Queenstown to get up to Wanaka so we decided to make a stop at the Remarkable
Ski Fields.
Because its summer there was some construction going on, but we found a nice walk up behind the ski area to Lake Alta. We got out of the car and got all rugged up, it was pretty chilly! Luckily Drew was very happy to snuggle up in the carrier for the whole walk.
It was quite stunning alpine scenery, complete with mosses and burbling brooks and a few alpine grasshoppers. There was quite a bit of cloud about, but most of the time it was above or below us, and we didn’t get any rain. The lake was really pretty and definitely worth the long windy drive and the hike up.

Then we continued on our way, stopping to check out the
pizzas on offer in Wanaka and then checking in to our nice little airbnb, a
cute cottage out the back of a house in Luggate (15min out of Wanaka)
