Week 12: Northern road trip

On the real christmas eve, we left the house we were staying in with mum and dad in the bay of islands, went for a walk in the kauri forrest near by and then went our separate ways.
Mum and Dad were heading back to Auckland to spend real christmas with the family and Tom Drew and I kept heading north for an extended christmas holiday.

Our first stop was Doubtless bay where we stayed in a wonderful little studio that opened right out with amazing views of the bay.

On Christmas morning we went for a walk that took in some more of the local views. A really nice way to start the day.

In the afternoon we went to the beach, ate ice cream and chilled out in our cool apartment

On boxing day we started heading south again, this time through the back roads and out to the west coast. We took the car ferry to avoid a long drive around the inlet and got some nice views when we hit the coast.

Then we visited the largest Kauri tree in NZ and attempted a few small walks.

That night (our last of the holiday) we had a farm stay! Our hosts were very friendly and took us for a hike up a nearby mountain and showed us all of their animals, including getting a go at milking the cows!
