South Island Adventures Days 13,14,15: Queen Charlotte walk

After a somewhat relaxing night at "The Villa" in Picton, where we had an entire double room for ourselves (so nobody would hear the baby cry) we got up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for our next adventure. An adventure we'd been looking forward for many months:
A three-day hike on the Queen Charlotte track. And it was a good day to get started.
A shortish boat trip later (Drew was too excited to sleep this time) and we found ourselves at Ship Cove, the beginning of the track. Today, we'd have the shortest leg of the three days: About 5km to Resolution Bay but to get there we had to go up the mountain and then down again. And that would be it. On a slippery muddy path. But the view at the top was worth it.

A very quick lunch-break at the unexpectedly windy outlook at the saddle and we were off again. Downhill from here. Our next stop was the Schoolhouse Bay campsite, which also features a peaceful little beach.

More food and we were ready for the last stint. The next bay around is Resolution Bay, where we spent the night.

The next day took us up the mountain again, less steep this time. And then down again to Furneaux Lodge. Drew got to do some walking on the way.

The track on the next (and our last) day was the longest but lead us mainly along the sound, no need to cross any more mountains.

Like yesterday, our destination, Punga Cove, was situated in a lovely bay with great views out to the mountains.
All we had to do now is eat pizza, drink beer, sleep and catch the water taxi back to Picton. Just in time - it was raining as we got on the boat and didn't want to stop for the rest of the day. Lucky we weren't walking!
