We had two full days in Wellington, and the first day was dedicated to Te Papa, the Museum of New Zealand.
They have a fantastic "bug lab" exhibit on at the moment, and Lizzy was jumping with excitement before we even got inside the door.
Our first stop was the kids natural history area, Drew and Lizzy got to crawl through a blue whales heart and Drew met an emperor penguin.

Next we had a good browse through the NZ history and Maori exhibits while Drew had a sleep in the carrier.
After a lunch break we came back to explore the bug lab. It was a good time too, not many people at all! We were really blown away by the creativeness of the displays and the great incorporation of science.
The orchid mantis, the parasitoid wasp and the Japanese honey bees cooperating to kill a wasp were highlights.
There were also some great beetles, a giant spider and Lizzy got to "talk" to one of her friends who was featured as an expert on insect displays.
As with all good museums, the gift shop was also a highlight, especially because this one was completely bug themed!
We the next day we visited the botanical gardens via the cable car. It was a wonderful place to walk around and we had fantastic weather.
In the afternoon (to wear Drew out because he had a late nap!) we headed back to the museum for another look at the natural history sections.
